Jeudi 17/12

We practiced talking about our daily routine and its similarity to that of other peoples.  We also watched more of the film and finished recording project presentations.

Vendredi 15/12

We went over the expressions and vocabulary on pg 260, practiced talking about what activities we do to stay in shape (pg 256), and went over the oral rubric for the project presentations.  We started presentations while students began watching “Joyeux Noël,” a film about WWI.

Objectif: Students will be able to talk about activities they do to stay in shape.


A Faire: 1) Answer the following question: “Est-ce que tu cours souvent?”  2) do pg 257 #1 (write complete sentences using the choices given or one of your own)  

TEC:  Watch film and work on completing the film activity

Vendredi 11/12

We had a substitute today.  Students did some practice with body parts, practiced projects, then did an in-class reading comprehension activity about the attacks in Paris.

Objectif: Students will read for comprehension


A Faire: pg 261 #8 (Write both responses in the dialogue for at least 6 different body parts.  Then do the dialogues orally in partners.)

TECLes Attentats à Paris.  Read out loud in partners/small groups taking notes over content (in English) and difficult vocabulary.  Complete comprehension activities (to turn in Tuesday!)

Devoirs :  Finish reading activity (to turn in Tue!), Take notes yellow box pg 260, write
complete sentence answers to all questions in pg 260 #7.

Mercredi 09/12

We did a little review and had a chance to ask some questions before we took the exam.

Objectif: Students will demonstrate knowledge on an exam.

A Faire : pg 332 #6 (connect the 2 sentences with “parce que” and put them in the past tense.  Decide which is the action and which is the circumstance and write them in the appropriate form, “passé composé or imparfait”)

Devoirs :  Write about the daily routine of 2 partners from last class—in paragraph form  (If you were absent see previous blog post and questions pg 279 #1, talk with classmates in tutorial or some other time outside of class.)  In your paragraphs, also respond to the questions: Est-ce que quelqu’un a la même (same) routine quotidienne que toi? Quelles aspects ?

Lundi 07/12

We practiced reflexives and had mini-discussions about our daily routines.  We discussed body parts and how to say if they hurt using “avoir mal à” then did a review game on Kahoot over passé composé and imparfait.  We had some time at the end to practice projects.

Objectif: Students will be able to identify body parts and say if they hurt.

A Faire: pg 279 #1 (write questions to ask others, write your own responses!)  Have a discussion about daily routines with 3 different people using your questions and answers.

Devoirs :  pg 260 #6 (response only, pay attention to contractions!), practice project (interviews will start Wed after exam), prep for exam (expressions of time we reviewed in Kahoot game are on pg 321!)

We continued working on reflexive verbs and learned some toiletry items as well.  Then we practiced projects.

Objectif: Students will be able to use body parts and toiletry items in context with reflexive verbs.


A Faire : pg 277 #5 (complete the sentences with the appropriate information and share in partners.)

TEC:  pg 279 #8 (write a sentence for each subject given using the verbs, toiletry items and body parts in the columns.)

Mardi 01/12

We discussed what we ate and how we spent the Thanksgiving break.  We learned some reflexive verb vocabulary and practiced using them in present tense and infinitive constructions.  We also spent time practicing our projects in partners.  As partners listened to practice presentations, they completed a guided listening activity about what they heard.

Objectif: Students will know and be able to use a variety of reflexive verbs in the present tense.

A Faire: Write a sentence in the “je” form with each of the verbs in the PowerPoint.  Be sure to keep track of the vocabulary!


TEC: See PowerPoint…Say what the man still needs to do to be ready for the day using “avoir besoin de” and the reflexive verb in infinitive construction.

Devoirs :  pg 276 #3 (write whole sentence !) & 4 (write an affirmative or negative sentence using « se reposer » based on the context given), practice project at length and questions.  Study for summative test!!

We discussed our Thanksgiving plans, practiced projects, began learning about reflexive verbs and played Loto.

Objectif: Students will learn basic construction with reflexive verbs

We practiced the verb “vivre”, learned to distinguish between “jouer à” and “jouer de” and did a reading comprehension activity.

Objectif: Students will be able to distinguish between “habiter” and “vivre”.

A Faire: pg 308 #1 (Write a complete sentence! Use choices given or make up your own!)

Devoirs :  Entire project is due in class on Wednesday!! Writing and visuals need to be ready to submit when you arrive and make sure you also have your own copy of the writing to practice with!! Qui/que/vivre packet #6 (Qui ou que?)

We reviewed passé compose, did a peer-edit of the project writing and did a reading comprehension activity.

Objectif: Students will use knowledge of grammar to give peer-feedback on project writing.

Devoirs :  Finalize writing for project and work on visuals (BOTH ARE DUE ON WEDNESDAY NEXT WEEK!), add “vivre” conjugations to verb chart  and take notes over meaning/usage pg 308, do #1 in Qui/Que/Vivre packet

We learned how to use the pronoun “que” in passé composé, reviewed project criteria and worked on the project, and discussed what happened in Paris and watched some related videos

Today, we listened to our song, did a scavenger hunt with the Paris Metro, and did research/writing for our project about Paris.

We got new seats, reviewed the relative pronouns “qui” & “que”, went over some homework questions, learned about the Paris Metro and our new project.

We practiced using the relative pronoun “que” and learned how to use “qui” as well.  We did a listening activity and got a chance to share our “l’été dernier” writings in small groups.

We practiced talking about countries we’d like to visit to practice prepositions, shared some “devinettes” (riddles), did a peer-edit of the “L’été dernier” writing and a listening activity, and learned the relative pronoun “que.”

Objectif:  Students will be able to use transition vocabulary and relative pronouns to write more complex sentences.

TEC :  Redaction en commun (Peer-edit)


Devoirs :  pg 311 #7 (write a sentence with the verb given in parentheses and connect it with the one given by using “que”. Connaître-know), Revise “l’été dernier” (final should be typed/very neatly written in pen, 1.5 spaced, 8 (minimum) transitions underlined, correct grammar/accents/spelling!  Be ready to turn in when you get to class.!!) Practice it to be ready for sharing in small groups!

Lundi 02/11

We learned about the meanings of the correction codes and how to use them for revision, which prepositions to use with which countries/states, and how to effectively use the tenses to distinguish between habitual actions in the past/present.  We also saw an example writing of Mme. Reid’s that demonstrate usage of the transition vocabulary on the back of the correction codes and illustrates the homework assignment.

Objectif:  Students will be able to distinguish between habitual actions in the past and present.


A Faire:  Partie 1:  pg 412 #1, write phrase, do orally.  Partie 2: respond to the following questions in complete sentences… Qu’est-ce que tu fais après l’école ?  Quand tu étais plus jeune, qu’est-ce que tu faisais après l’école.  Quels sont tes loisirs ? Quand tu étais plus jeune, quels étaient tes loisirs ? 

Devoirs :  l’été dernier..write 20 phrases au passé, using 8 mots de transition (back of correction codes) It’s a ROUGH DRAFT so it needs to be DOUBLE SPACED & NEATLY WRITTEN/TYPED.  Prepare to talk about 5 countries you’d like to visit (if not sure, make it up !)

We talked about Halloween plans, read aloud and discussed pg 416-17 in groups, did some “self” editing of the “devinette” and played a Halloween card game.

ObjectifStudents will be able to comprehend short texts in French.

A Faire: Leçon 6/8B handout #3 (front), #1 (back, some passé composé too)

TEC :  1) In partners, read pg 416-17 out loud, taking turns.  Discuss your answers.  2) Self-correction/editing of “devinette”.  A) Identify verbs—should they be in past/present/infinitive?,  check forms: conjugation, HV/PP/agreements, imparfait. Be conscientious of what you’re trying to say and let that inform your choices! B) check other grammatical elements:  spelling/accents, adjective agreements, word order, possessive adjectives (mon/ma/mes/etc.)  Make sure things make sense!!

Today we practiced talking about preparations we made for Halloween over the weekend, listened to our new song, brainstormed reading strategies and corrected quizzes.

We did some speaking practice and some reading in small groups.  Madame Reid finished oral interviews.

ObjectifStudents will practice reading for fluency and understanding.

TEC :  Reading pg 324, note culturelle pg 325: in groups of 2-3, read out loud, take turns, discuss each paragraph, take notes, brainstorm/discuss reading strategies you used when you didn’t understand immediately (everyone keep a list!) DO: write English summary, & answer questions pg 325 (if false, write true statement!)

Devoirs :  Finish lecon 6-8 paquet, write a paragraph of at least 10 sentences talking about what you did on your 5 day weekend in past tense.  Make sure it is detailed and developed.  Use transition vocabulary on back of correction codes and at least 2 of our new expressions (rien, personne, deja, jamais!)

Today in class we reviewed some basic questions about what we do in life (school, sports, family) and possessive adjectives (my, your, his/hers, etc).  We also took a verb vocab quiz and did a peer-edit of the last 2 sections of the project.

We reviewed the usage of the “imparfait” and the “passé composé” as well as formation.  Then, in groups, we did an activity where we had to make choices between using one or the other.  We also did a peer edit of the first 2 paragraphs of the project (past vacations and future hopes/dreams).

ObjectifStudents will be able to differentiate between two forms of the past tense.

A Faire: Handout…In groups, decide between imparfait/passé composé for your assigned paragraph, then rewrite it the correct forms.  Circle your choices in the other three paragraphs as well (you don’t need to rewrite those!)

We reviewed how to give physical and personality descriptions as well as the passé composé with être.  We did a partner speaking activity and have some time for project interviews.

Today we reviewed the formation of the passé compose and how to make questions using it.  We also had time to start interviewing partners for the project.

Mardi 08/09

Today we reviewed how to form questions in French, finished dialogue presentations, chose new French identities (names) and made nametags.

ObjectifStudents will review how to form questions and write some.

A Faire: Handout…Part A : write an « est-ce que » and an « inversion » question for each in the « vous » form.  Part B:  write inversion questions asking about Chantal.  Be sure to insert a “t” between the subject and the verb to resolve the vowel clash.

TEC :  Brainstorming in partners.  Brainstorm as many questions as possible that you could ask if you were trying to get to know someone new.


Devoirs : Imagine you are a journalist and you’re going to interview someone. Write a list of 15 questions you can use to ask about the subjects of:  family/friends, personal/school life, and likes/dislikes.  Vary the formations of your questions and consider the types of responses you will get from your questions (oui/non vs. info).  Choose 10 (difficult/new) verbs from the verb list that you defined and do visual dictionary entries (MUST include:  the verb, an image, and the verb used correctly in a sentence.)  Practice!!

Today we reviewed numbers and how to tell time, focusing specifically on expressions for time of day and the ¼, ½, ¾ hours as well as the 24 hour clock.  We set up binders/cahiers then practiced and started presenting dialogues.

Today in class we did some review of questions and used them to create an original dialogue that we will present in class next time.  We also listened to our first song and checked out textbooks.

Today we practiced our new verb constructions using à/de to connect infinitives and started reviewing pronouns for the test.

Mercredi 27/05

Today we shared about our long weekends and our favorite parts of our stories.  Then we had some planning time for presentations and talked about the logistics of putting together the presentations.  We also discussed some verbs that are followed by a preposition that must precede an infinitive.

Vendredi 22/05

We practiced some more fairy tale vocabulary, edited Partie 4 and had some work time for revisions.  Final drafts due Wednesday!


A FaireRépondez à ces questions avec des phrases complètes :  1) Si tu pouvais transformer en n’importe quel personnage de conte de fée, lequel choisirais-tu ? Pourquoi ?? 2) Si tu avais le pouvoir (power) à jeter un sort, qu’est-ce que tu ferais/changerais ?  3) Est-ce qu’il y avait une occasion que tu t’es perdu (e) quelque part ?  Quand et comment est-ce que tu as trouvé le bon chemin (your way) ?

Devoirs :  Final draft of story (Don’t forget: 1.5 spaced, all parts together as a cohesive story, dialogue distinguished from other parts of the text, accents, title, READ IT through before turning in!!)

Today we reviewed fairy tale vocabulary and object pronouns.  Then we did a peer edit of Parties 2 & 3 and had some work time.
